The ES3 Office Olympics Planning Committee was shocked to learn that construction delays will push back the start of the 2008 games. While it appears that Avripas Construction will complete Olympic stadium on schedule, Andy Davski's conversion of the Ram Power Tower into the ES3 Eternal Flame is 1 to 3 weeks behind schedule. Chris Bean, President of ES3 explains, "Make no mistake, some loose ends can be overlooked, holding the Olympics without a 50-ft-tall flame that can also load a Ram with a symbolic 1,000-lb load into the bed can never be tolerated." As a result the games will be delayed.
While the field of competitors are certainly disappointed about the delay, it appears that the change of date will increase the field of competitors to include even more ES3 staffers than previously planned. Additionally, it appears that ES3 powerhouse Evan Rondeau's suspension from the games for blood doping will laps — making him once again eligible for competition.
Cheers of relief from the ES3 Art Department were heard when the news broke. When interviewed, Jeff Korb responded, "There was no way I was going to get all of the sequins and spandex sewed into the uniforms with the old deadline. With the extra two weeks, I think I'll be able to work in some new ideas I've been thinking about. I can't tell you all the details but, look for a fierce cape and headpiece in the mix."
The ES3 Office Olympics Committee is currently re-working the field for the games. They request all staffers who will be out of the Detroit office the weeks of June 16th and 23rd to identify when they will be available to compete. This way the committee can ensure the largest field possible. Schedules can be emailed to mklein@es3.net

Introducing the Next Great ES3 Leader
One of Noah's favorite birthday party destinations is Laser Tag. And, as an experienced birthday party chaperone I've often played along, extinguishing hundreds of four-footers with my blaster. Lots of fun. If you've ever played, you know that there are a variety of targets you can shoot at — targets on the opposing team's vests (those are the easy ones to find and hit), fun targets (triggers for SFX, animatronics, lights, etc.) and most importantly, "Bases" (targets that deliver max points when you hit them). While I've gotten pretty decent at mowing down vest-wearing 4th graders, I've rarely found, or hit a "Base." That's what separates me from the legends of Laser Tag.
Welp, Laser Tag is kind of like work. There are targets that are easy to hit — doing what's asked of you, putting in your 40, delivering the baseline, trying not to screw stuff up. Blasting these baseline targets can help you stay in the middle of the pack — insulated somewhere between the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. But what if you want more from your time at ES3? What if you want to become a major player? What do those targets look like?
In a recent Management Team Meeting we listed out the characteristics we look for in the next phase of ES3 leaders. Here's what we came up with:
-- Work Ethic
-- Leadership
-- Overachiever
-- Pride in Work
-- Intelligence
-- Self-Motivation
-- Written & Oral Communication
-- Vision & Innovation
-- Confidence / High Self Esteem
-- Drives Ideas & Solutions (Or as JB likes to say "Thought Leadership"
So, where do you stand? How are you scoring on these targets? Which are your strengths? Weaknesses? What's your plan for overcoming your weaknesses? Please feel free to talk through this list with your supervisor if you have questions or are interested to find out where you stand. Also, if there is a weakness you want to improve on, they will do their best to give you the tools you need, or point you in the right direction.
Who is the next great ES3 leader? Dial in your sights and it might just be you.

Get Ready to Rumble!!!
Announcing the first-ever ES3 Office Olympics — Friday, June 13th, 2008
Yes, you heard right — the ES3 Office Olympics! Here's your chance to show off your mastery of the office, have some fun, win a prize, and have your feats of creativity, strength and knowledge entered into the ES3 record book for all future generations to admire. Yes, this is big!
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
The Game:
The ES3 Office Olympics steals a page from Minivan “Find-it, Stow-it, Do-it” lore, but instead of using a vehicle as the object of the activity, we will be using our building. This relay will test and train employees on important features like:
-- changing a roll of TP
-- loading paper towel
-- turning on / off the stereo system
-- raising and lowering the blinds
-- receiving a package from UPS
-- loading the dish washer
-- finding supplies
-- locking the door
-- loading paper in the printer
-- re-ordering paper for the copier
-- making coffee
-- turning the pinball machine on/off
-- etc.
Plus, there will be a variety of additional fun events sprinkled in for added drama ( :) )
The Lottery:
At 12 noon, Monday June 9th (yes, one week from today) we will ceremoniously pull names to build 5 powerhouse teams of competitors. The selection will take place in the ES3 ideation area and will be overseen and certified by the accounting firm of Giovanelli and Hastings. Please plan on joining us for the fun.
Meet & Name Your Team:
You can meet with your team, if you'd like to talk strategy the week prior to the Olympics. Whether you meet or not, your team will need a name. The blog will be a good place to plan your meeting.
Prizes:
Yes, valuable prizes will be awarded to the top three teams at the prestigious Closing Ceremony at the end of the day. Who will go for Gold? Only time will tell!
Officials:
Impartial, unbiased officials from the community will help conduct the event, oversee the drug testing and make sure there is no cheating. You can pick up your dixie cup from Nicole Lemmer.
